THE SEASONS Autumn begins on March 21st; Winter on June 21st (the shortest day); Spring commences on September 23rd; Summer on December 22nd' (the longest day). From observations, extend ing over a number of years, it appears that, on the average, the hottest period is from the 2lst to tihe 25th of January, and the coldest from the 20th to the 24th of July.
