—. * 'lne usual monthly meeting ol the Horowhenua Fruitgrowers' Association i was held iu Mr D. Smart's rooms on Friday evening. There were present: Messrs S. Gilling, H. Blackburn, C. Roekel, J. Robertson, i . Soskings and M Fosella, In tho absence of Mr J. C. Ncill, Mr j RohorUon was olecteil cliairman. A letter was received from the Department ol Internal Aflaiiw stating tlniL it had received a report l'nom tli3 Wellington Acclimatisation Society, from which it appeared that there were, not many hares or quail .in this district. Still if any orcliardist whose property was being destroyed made aplication to the Minister to kill these animals it would receive duo consideration. The association hoped that advantage would be taken" of the above by anyone who was suffering from tue attentions of hares and quail. A letter was received from Mr J. C. Neill. president of the association tendering hit* resignation. Mr Neill has joined the tunnelling corps and at present is in Auckland. The association accepted the resignation and passed the following resolution to be forwarded U> Mr Neill: "Thits association desires to express its regivt at losing your .services, while at the same time it congratulates you on the patriotic step you have taken in going to the front th fight tor the Empire. This- a-ssuciation also takes the opportunity to place on record its appreciation of the splendid (services you have rendered ot it, and to the fruitgrowing industries in this district. It hopes that it will have the opportunity of welcoai--1 ing you back .safe and well, at no dis laiu date, and that you once more will take up your duties in our midst." Mr Robertson moved and Mr Ciilling seconded: ''That the rseuretury write to Mr J, 11. Davidson, in charge m"'the orchards at the Weraroa Experimental Farm and convey the association's cougnttulalions to him on las promotion to the charge of the Government orchard at Tauranga, and state that this association tenders Him its thanks or tho kindness and consideration and assistance he always accorded to members of the Association." The next meeting to be called will be an extraordinary one to elect a cliairman.
