Horowhenua A. & P. Association

The annual meeting ot the Horovhenuit A. and 1\ Association Avas held m the Foresters' Hall on Saturday afternoon. There was a fair attendance and the president of the Association Mi J. J)avies occupied the chair.

Mr Da vies apologised lor the lateness in calling the meeting. It was owing to the secretary being unable to got the return of the balance-sheet; howevci the business of the association had not been neglected in any way. In reading tho ninth annual report (printed bolow) Mr Davies paid a high tribute to the work of the secretary. He (Mr Wallace) had taken up the work tit tho last moment, hut had shown such energy and perseverance that the last show Avas most successful. He also spoke highly of the work done by Messrs X. Kirkcaldie, J. Hammond Murray ami G. Kingdon. Lie wished to thank members for the assistance they had given him during his term of office. Tlie report was read as follows:— Members and gentlemen. - Your committee have pleasure in presenting to you the ninth annual report and balance sheet, and in doing so desire co thank one and all for the good work and ahle assistance rendered during the past year, which, as will be seen by the balance-sheet now before you. has been the most successful in the history of 'he association in all respects. The association commenced the year with an overdraft of £33 is Id. which you com lnittee have pleasure in stating has since hcen paid off. In addition to this they increased the prize, hy some £50, donated £53 13s 6d to Tho Belgian Belief Fund, and also had the expense of tarring all hun'dlos, etc.. on the ground, and now have a oredi* balance at the Bank ot Australasia £85 l.s 7d, and we feel sure your com mittee have every reason to congratu'•ite the- members upon the improv ;■ financial position of the association. It is remarkable to note the great increase in donations, members' subscriptions and entrance fees for the past year, as against tho previous ones, these being some £90, £40 and £l? 5 respectively, which is chiefly due to the energetic work of members ol yomr committee. Mr J. Drysdale is deserving of special thanks for his very loyal support and valuable assistance at all times together with' that of the Government Expcrimenetal Farm, especially in connection with the butter-fat competition held a;

the association's last show. It is with

deep regret that we nave to record tlvt death of two valuable members of the

' Association in Messrs J. 11. McDonald and J. It. Ko'bboll, only- son of our late president, and we feel sure that their relatives have tho deepest, sympathy of all members of the association. Your committee wish to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to all those wilio so liberally donated to the funds of the association, also to the Levin Cooperative Dairy Company Limited for their handsome trophy of a silver cup for competition. Tn conclusion they trust that the incoming committee will endeavour to still further the advance of the association so that in the near future it will stand out a« a credit . > the district, aud all those connected with rt.
