A man named Jaiuen Troy was arrested by the police yesterday for using obscene language in Oxford street. Troy appeared at the Levin S. "M. Court thin morning boiore Mr B. R. Hardener J. P. and was fined C 5.
A meeting ot the lady members of the rieathorlea Golf Club is to be'jield this evening, to make arrangements for the tea to be given on the links (next Wednesday) in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.
Horowiienua Racing Club had a most successful meeting at Levin yesterday, alter the live year compusory abstention from racing occasioned by the loi.s oi a totafisator permit at.tlie-instance ot the .Racing Commission in 1911. The lields yesterday were oi good quality, and the racing was close and exciting throughout. The Horowhenua Cup was a splendid contest. The ru liners got away together, but Maniaroa. the winner, was not favourably placed, and he had a lot. of ground to maKe up at the last bond and when the tussle down the straight began fie finished resolutely and had the race beyond doubt several lengths worn the'winning post. Mania-roa is entered ,for the New Zetland Cup. but on present appearances ho will need a trifle more hardening lo make him fit for tlie two-mile contest, tliough his finish yesterday demonstrated him sufficiently trained for a mile and a quarter race. At tin time of the accident ne was riding a pony, and when crossing the railway line in Bath street the pony shied at a. bicycle and wheeling suddenly, the lad lost his seat and fell heavily. good program .re re oncored vigorously. Miss 01 ga Nicholson sang finely, and her .sweet sympathetic voice was heard to great advantage in "Annie Laurie" which slfe sang in response '<> an encore. Mr -J. Utiku maintained his reputation and during his time on the stage kept the audience in continuous laughter. Mr I'. Hakaraia the male soprano sang "Home woet Home" very effectively. The Highland dancing by Miss Millie Gilbert was performed gracefully and in excellent time and the pon dances were considered by the audience ''just the thing.
