1 lu preparing liie ground lor the crojLion oi a railway depot at Ventinuglia upon the spot where the ancient Roman town oi'- Allium Intemelium once stood, many objects of archaeological interest have been made aiong tho Roman road Aurelia, an! are supposed to date from the first century A.JD. They comprise receptacles for ointments, chalices, buckles, earthenware and glass goblets ol delicate work nianship and ornamented with lioral designs uncommon in the linds of J he district. Three different Kinds of the pot tery lamps have also been found sonic of them artistically decorated With d'o&Lgns and cupids in relief. Particularly noteworthy is the discovery of vases, evidently of Gallic workmanship, similar to the well-known vases of Arrzzo, but with an orange-coloured, or rattier fiery red glaze and in a perfect state of preservation. An official of the Turin Museum has been ehargecTwith the supervision of the excavations. and archaeologists expect still richer linds as the works of digging and levelling proceeds for the erection of the large frontier railway depot. i mn&r .
