Levin Ladies' Patriotic Committee
A meeting of the Levin Ladies' i J airiotic Coi)imitt<3e was held in, the .Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon to consider the question, of running sowing guilds lor the purpose of assisting in the equipment of the second hospital ship, and the organizing of the work connected therewith. Apologies were received for Tiou-at-tendance from Mesdamen J. W. Gibson, W. Hughes and S. Hall. The Mayoress (Jirs.B. R. Garclener) presided and explained the objects of the meeting., it was the intention to hold a guild at the residences of various members of the committee on different days, these members to provide afternoon tea for the workom on the occasion when the guild was held at their homes. A letter was received from Messrs .Stiles and Mathcson offering to give a parcel of g<>«yV and wll any goods quired at A vote oT thanks was pa«<d to Stiles and MatfTeson for i heir offer. Mrs Goldsmith stated that all the drapers in the town Had treated them extremely well in the past. On tho motion, of Iftrs Brown, seconded by Mrs Nicholson, it was decided' to hold the sewing guild at the school instead of at private residence*. Monday, "Wednesday and Friday were •set apart as work days at the school, on the motion of Mrs ftdkin seconded by Mrs Wallace. Mesdnmcs Sigley, Donolme, Adkin and ITichter were appointed to do tho "cuEling out." The following buying committee *vas set up: Mesdanios Goldsmith, Richter and Adkin. The iirst sewing guild will be neld on Wednesday next at the school; work to start at 3 o'clock.
Mr b Nicholson offered to purchase one dozen yards oi surgical towelling and make it up.
'Mrs Herrick proposed that money ton aids tile tunc! tor assisting the Levill Ladies' Committee in its work towards equipping the hospital ship be asked for from the public'.
.Mrs Ricliter seconded the motion and it ivas carried.
Jhe .Mayor (Mr JJ. it. Gardener) interviewed the arranging a send-off for question of arranging a Send-off for the Levin and district volunteers in the Ninth JUeinlorcemoiits. He asked the ladies to take over the management ol this "send-off, ' as they had managed the last one so successfully, not only from a social point of view but also ilrom a financial ipujintf wf view. ft. was contemplated to give a welcome to the Levin men that already have returned tiome, at the same tune as the "send-off"—to combine the two functions. ft .ViiS suggested that the Bth October would be a suitable date. I t was decided to take up the matter as suggested, and a luirflTer tneetiug will be held later 011 to arrange details. The following gifts of money were promised or received:—Mr J.
