i wandered among the graves oiiu day In the Laud wiieic the Dead Men duoil; And sorrow seemed hundreds of leagues away l'Yoin the heart oi that quiet dell; And 1 heard uo moan and i heard no eigh, And no ono rose with complaining e-ry, JJut they slept on under a 'pcaccl'iil «ky, in tho land where the Dead -Men dwell. 1 noticed the roses red in bloom In the Land where Uie Dead Men dwell; And the lilies, white in tho twilight gloom, •Stood guard as tho shadows loll; And the violets, thero in the waning ' day, iuielt dawn by the hearts di tho dead to pray, j And the wind stopped by wifrl a word to say, In the Laud where tho Deatl Men dwell. 1 saw no sign and i saw no strife In the Land where the Dead Men dwell; And no one wailed at the woes of life Ac rest in the narrow cell; iiiit they held their course through a dreamless sleep Where never a oaro or a pain might creep; And why should one ever tome to weep In the Land where the Dead Men dwell ?—Anonymous.
