* _. VALUABLE DISCOVERY AT WAIKAIII. Tlie Department of Agriculture is at present sotting up experiments with various fonns and quantities of lime throughout Canterb'ui-y. During tho last few dayis arrangements were made by the Agriculturist of the Department. Mr A. MTiiggarl, for the immediate supply of the thii\v-fivc to'is soft carbonate or lime from the extensive deposit recently discovered nt "Waikari. The Waipara County Council and the Waikari branch of the Fanners' Union have interested themselves a good deal in these deposits, .and give every assistance to render the lime available for the experiments. The present position with regard 'o the working of the Waikari lime deposits give promise of tneir being established ere long a new and thriving industry in this district. The experiments will be watched closely by farmers generally.
