Following are tho records of Mie
peuigree Jersey cow Hillcrest's, Hope, bred by Mr. E. &. Lancaster. Slio gave (jlOJlbs of but tort at, and her test began at the age of two years seven months. in so doing she established a Xew Zealand record for a Jersey cow under three years old. The best previous record was 5241b5, made by Lady of Collingwood some yearn ago Hillerest's Hope is a- granddaughter of the two celebrated imported bulls K.C.B. and Majesty's Fox, her father being K Seo 18 and her mother Sil 'er Topsy, a daughter of Majesty's Fox, a point which should be of interest to dairymen wluj think that a heifer should not breed till she is three years old, and then that the first calf is 110 good and should hare its throat cut. Hillerest's Hope was born of a 20-month-old mother, and she herself calved her first calf at 20 months also. An unofficial record was kept for her. She yielded 3091bs of butter-fat in nine months. She was then dried off and calved iher second calf at two years and seven months, then being put under the Government's semiofficial test, when she put up the abovo result in twelve months, calving her third calf in thirteen months and eight days from the commencement of the test, and being then only three years eight months and ten days old. Thus 1 she established a total record for her two first seasons of over 9251bs of but-ter-fat to her credit, which at the under-estimate of Is per lb is £46 ss. Her first calf (a bull) was sold for 30 . guineas, making a total return to her owner of £77 15s. at a little over three and a half years old; not reckoning a fine bull calf wliioh iisljeing reared at the present time, and that the second calf -was smothered at 'birth. This cow is not only a producer; she has been shown in the show ring on four occasions and has won three .firsts and one second prize at Levin and Palmerston shows. Mr Lancaster has had four of hie? pedigree cows tested by the Government semi-official test during the past two years, all of which have easily gained their certificate ff merit. Their records read Silver Topsy 439.58 ; Fox's .Sybil 4521b5; Little Champ 366 lbs in nine, months, (the record being incomplete owing to an accident); Magnet's TVaif Go4lbs.
