Un da-tin day, at ihe instance of the Audilor-(jcuoi.ars Department. 11. L. Lodge, late clerk to tlie Horowbiiiiuu Cuuuly Council, was arrested by iiio i'almeivston police at the ilaugiotu military camp on a charge ol intent to defraud, in that he omitted to outer material particulars ot the receipt of the isuiu ol jL'32 18s received from .Messrs Martin and Atkinson on account oi Archibald Hall. The charge is the outcome of an investigation of the council's books, which have been under examination by officers from the Audit Department for some weeks past. Accused. was brought on to Levin by the evening train, and appeared before the Levin S.M. Court, -when Mr F. G. Roe, J.L'.. presided. After the particulars of the charge had been given accused was remanded to appear before Mr J. \Y. Poynton S.M. at the next sitting of the S.M. Court on Thursday. September 23rd'. 13ail was allowed in hi<s own recoguaisanee of £100 and two .sureties of £00 each.
