A public meeting for the purpose of winding up the alfairs ol' the Queen Carnival Committer, is to be held next 1 uesday evening, in the Borough Council offices. It i.s proposed to form a Levin and District Patriotic -Society, to be .permanent. On Saturday the Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company 1.u1.. fold the Horowhenua Pacing Club's privileges at the forthcoming meeting. The following prices ivere realized:Outside gate*. J. Cameron too: publican's booth, M. Suhan, £36; correct cards,-J. Cameron C2o: lior.se paddock, ii. Hook, £1 15s. The chief race - Plumpton Handicap - at the Avondale races on Saturday was won by 'Royal Irish (8.1) in linin. oSsecs. Tinopai was second. There wa.s a large attendance, and the sum 0.l £31.08S 10s was put. through 'he machine, compared with £30.712 for the corres|)onding day of last year.
