mission by post, and twelve were removed from tlie register. Six new lettcr-carriors' deliveries were established. Deliveries were elftencfed in twenty-five and increased in frequency in seven places. Automatic stamping machines wore ercctcd at eleven offices. The date-stamping at the office of posting of inland packets prepaid in cash and containing printed advertisements or other intrinsically valueless printed matter was abolished in July, 1914. On the Bth Septeniuer, 1014, Post Office cash amounting to £53 6s 7d and stamps to the value of <£'$3 2s were taken from the postal agency afc Fanning Island by a German naval force landed from the warship N'urnbdfg.
