HoroivJiemia Racing Club's spring meeting is to be held on 30th September, and arrangements already are well in hand Tor the event. The course is being put in order, and the buildings altered and renovated. The totalisator for the meeting will Do a portable silent machine supplied by a Napier firm.

The books belonging to the Lending Department of the Levin Public Library, are to be received lor a thorough overhaul. Borrowers are notified that all books are called in, and must be left at the Library not later than Tuesday next. Books will not be issued during the coming -week.

Lodge doctors in Wellington, through the local branch of the British Medical Association, have called upon the Friendly iSocieties to agree to a new scale of payment for medical attention. Jn the city tlie present payment is 15s per member per annum but the doctors have asked that this be increased to 255. 'iiiough some of the Friendly .Societies regard the claim as an attempt at imposition, it is understood that the doctors are likely to have their way in the matter, as no' practical alternative is open. A similar increase hats already been claimed and seen red by the doctors in other districts, including Mutt. Johnsonville and Petone.

The annual meeting of the Levin Methodist Ladies' Guild was held in the side room of the Century Hall on Thursday afternoon. There was a very good attendance. The reports were read and proved very satisfactory. Voles cf sympathy were passed to the Rev. and .Mrs Abbey ,expressing sincere regret at Mr Abbey's illness and hoping lie would have a speedy recovery to health again; also to .Mrs Staples in her sad hour of trouble and sorrow. Johnson—You are a doubly miserable cur. and a liar.—
