QUESTIONS AND REPLIES. BEEF TRUST. Mr Thomson (Wallace) to ask (he Prime Minister. Whether the American Beef Trust, including the firms of Armour and Co., Swift and Co., Morris and Co.. and Sulzberger and Co.. ol Chicago, are operating in New Zealand? (Note.—The American Beef Trust lias intimated to the British Government that if they continue to seize shipments of meat consigned to Scandinavia, and which the British Government believed to be intended *or the enemy, it will refuse lnrther supplies of meat to the British people.) The Right Hon Mr Massey, replied, Neither of the firms mentioned (nor Cudahy and Co., another firm reputed to be associated with the so-called "Trust") are operating in New Zealand under their own names. Sinco March last all New Zealand beef, mutton, and lamb available for export lias been shipped to the Imperial Government. POLITICAL LIFE ELIXIR. Mr Nosworthy to ask the Prime Minister, Whether he will introduce legislation to amend section 13 of the Legislation Act. 1908. by providing for the continuance of the House of Representatives for five years in lieu of three years, the amendment to take effect after the termination ol the present Parliament?
The Eight Hon. Mr. Massey replied. The question will receive the iserioun consideration of the Government before the term of the present Parliament comes to an end.
