Tlie Uishop • i Melanesia preached in St. Mark's Church, Levin, on Sunday night. He took as his test the words of Christ to St. Luke xxii-27: "I am among you as lie that serveth." When he came to New Zealand a few weeks ago, he said, that he found everyone thinking of service for others. Men wore asking themselves why should 1 stay at home and enjoy comfort and luxury when my country needs me "at the front." Women, too, had their work in providing lor the needs of those 'who weie sacrificing their lives for others. He then went on to speak of the need of Christian people grasping the idea of service in the cause of Christ and doing their duty faithfully and well. One man is called to undertake secular work, another is called to dedicate his life to the ministry ol Christ's Church. Some are called to lay down their lives for others in the mission field. He* gave instances of two men in the Melanesiau Mission who had done so recently. it was their duty, their vocation, and they had served God faithfully and well in ministering to humanity. At the great .lay they would hear the voice of the .Son of Man saying "Inasmiien as ye did it to the least of these, my brethren, ye did it unto -Me." Service, he said, was of the essence of ' Christianity. Though the Bishop was , far from well his address was most thoughtful, and was listened to with rapt attention. One could not help thinking when looking nt the Bishop's hard-worn appearance tliat he put into practice every word which he uttered. Hie lordship left Ltwin on Monday morning en route for Auckland. Ho sails on the mission drip for the South Sea Islands
