J lie Weraroa Hail was Idled well on Friday night, the occasion .being the first social gathering, organised [or the purpose oi raising lunds for the Anglican Church room at Weraroa. A program coniaining many entertauimg and novel leaturets Avais presented, and the audience had a good evening's amiioenieni. The items performed by tiie children of the Sunday School earned much applause, ami the succcm> ol the entertainment, was due largely to their elloris, ana Misti iJowen ■who trained them in their several pieces, and to Miss Appiegate, who played the accompaniments ior them. The children's first appearance on thy stage was in the iir&t scene ol "Red Kiding Hood," followed uy the chorus "The Hose of Joy, ' and the "GoodNight" chorus, the latter written by Miss lioneii. In all liiese the children performed well, and Rang well. The overture was played oy Miss Appleyate. and a song by Mr ilinton of the lio\>' Training was received well. "Jud lirownin's account of liubeustein's playing," recited by Miss JJoucu, created niucli amusement. Tiie old nigger minstrel song "Tolly Wolly Doodle' , was revived successtully by Mr D. McKaiu. Mr Mottershead's song "lloses" was encoied. aud in response he sang "Thora." Other items on tiie program were acrobatic feats by Mr .U. Banks, and his understudy Mr D. McKaiu, amusing tableaux entitled '''Dreams of Bliss," the tableau enarade* ,which appeared to puzzle almost everyone present, and the photographs of iaces ot several residents of .Levin and Weraroa, which had to be identified. Mrs Matthews, Miss Pink and Mibo Applegate were the accompanists (.luring the evening. At the interval the vicar, ltov. H. T. Stealey thanked all those, espeoially Miss Boweu, for tiie work they had done in organising the entertainment
A aiipper, ample in quantity and hist Claris in quality, was luuiued round at the close anil everyone was satislied.
In the tableau charades competition Mis Edwards and Miss Kelliher tied. Mrs Edwards was successful in the drawing lor the prize, a silver-mounted tray. Mrs Leger won the portrait competition,, a hand bell. ,
The promoters desire to tender their sincere thanks to Mr Lovott, oi : the Grand Hotel, ior the use of the hall so kindly lent for the occasion.
The secretary (Mr \\\ fciinitheon) desi re.s to acknowledge the receipt of £10 donated by Mr John kob. bell to the building fund. The other donations previously promised will be gratefully received a« the building is in course of construction.
