CULilirilClll'llCil. GUI' COU-NUI/S EXI'MUMEM'. At iliu City Council's show rooms au attempt is being made to utilise electricity to hatch eggs in au incubator oi standard pattern. Tiiia experiment wi'l be the lirst oi its land in Sew Zealand The venture its being supervised by .Uγ j J il, Piigh, who has donated eggs from selected stock, and the current is being supplied tree by the City Council. There are 32 hens' eggs and one gouse's egg in the incubator. They have been iu a week to-day, it ie> expected that they will hatch in a fortnight. They will then be auctioned by Mr J. 13. -Merrit lor the Lady Liverpool Fund. , it is claimed that in the electrical system the advantages are manifold and by no means the least is a temperature gauge, which maintains an even temperature—there Jiae been a variation in heat ol under two degrees in a week's operations—and which automatically cuts off the current when the temperature is .sufficient, preventing power wastage. Other advantages are cleanliness and the little attention needed to cany out a (successful hatching. Under the present rate of charges hatching by electricity will not be as cheap as the other systems, but it is hoped that a special rate will he made by the council "for poutkrymen. A penny per unit is quoted a* being a suitable rate; a unit ol electricity being consumed by the incubator in twenty-four hours. OhristchiH'ch Star.
