A pretty wedding was solemnised in the Anglican Church, Levin, on Wednesday, August 18th, when Miss Ui'acu Alyi-tlo Hanvood, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs Harwood, of Heathcrlea, was married to Mr JJarteii John Herbert, fourth son of the late Mr Herbert, of Korito New Plymouth. The Rev H. T. Stealey performed the eereniony. The bride wore a lovely dress ! of white silk voile and carried a bouquet of jonquil's and snow drops. Mi , Sid : Herbert was best man. After the ; ceremony a reception was held at the ; residence of the bride's parents. The breakfast table looked very gay and bright, the flowers being jonquils, snowdrops and ferns. The happy couple Jeft by motor car for Palmerston, on route for Wangaiiiii, amidst showers of rice. The bride's travelling costume- was a darJk navy blue coat and skirt, and hat to match. JDenmark has ju«t received news of the adoption of a new Constitution, among the provisions being woman (iiiihagc and an elected Upper House. It is to come into lorce in a year's time. Under the present system of suffrage for the Eolkothing (Lower -House) one vote i« given to every honest and independent man oi thirty who is not a private servant. Under the new Bill the suffrage is extended to women and to servents. The minimiwn age lor voting is to be lower gradually so that ultimately it will be 25 for both sexes. At present there are 11-1 constituencies each returning one member to the .t'olketthing by a simple majority. Under tfie new law there will be in addition to these a nuin ber, probably 2'3, elected on a proportional system. The Lanflsthing (Upper House) at present consists of GO nie*nDers. Oi these 51 are elected Ly <i kind of electoral and half chosen by the electors and half by the most highly taxed voters in the towns and the 1100 bigge.st landowners in the country. The other twelve are appointed by the Xing. The new Upper Mouse will con sist of 72 members, of whom 51 will be elected on a proportional .system and eighteen will be chosen by the old Landsthing before its disappearance in it« old shape. The King will cease to apjwint any members , . Women will not only rote for members of both Mouses, but will be eligible to sit in both Houses. On Friday next in the Weraroa 'J own Hall, tlie Anglican 'C-hurch members will hold a (social gathering that promises to be eminently successful.
