LAYING DOWN A LAWN.
When it is desired to form a la»vn, tho ground should be trenched aa directed for the vegotablo garden any time during the autumn. If the plot can be prepared in March, a season tray be gained by sowing the seed during that month; the surface must be thoroughly pulverised and trodden down firmly. The following is a good mixture, it procurable:— Crested Dog-tail, 2lb"«; Fustuca tonuifolia, -libs; Festuca duruscula, 21bs; Loliuin tenuifolia perenue, 201bs; White clover ,21bs; Trifolium minor, 81bs; Poa Nemoralis and Senipervireus ■libs of eacu. This mixture will -uflice for half an acre, and will form a very good lawn, and if kept cut close answers most soils. Special mixtures for laying down lawns may also bo nad from any seedsman. tioine of our native poas and other grasses would answer admirably for lawn purposes. If the ground is of a retentive nature, sowing the seeds should be deferred till August. Commence lo cut as soon as the machine , will act. Some )refer tho scythe for the first time of cutting. Roll previous to mowing; this will save the knives ot the mower.
