The potato market is very firm, values having risen during tlie week. The market is now practically bare an* Southern Merchant* are asking £7 E. 0.8. South Island port. Southern grown up-to-dates gamekeeper, and northern atar seeds are still being freely enquired for, and good business lias ueen done. Supplies aro not plentiful, and growers are recommended to obtain their requirniento without delay. T'Lore is fair enquiry fur local onions, and slightly lower on account of larger which aro in short supply. Eggs aro quantities coming forward. Wheat an-l oats are stationary. Jiarley is ottering freely, and thoro is a fair enquiry for male. All meals are selling steadily. Chaff—there is only a small amount of business being done, lliere has been a pronounced drop in oaten straw chail on account of the Australian market having fallen, thus making expor.t proiitable. There is also a much larger quantity of hay offering than for some time past, sellers evidently autici pating an earlyspring. Wheaton straw is wanted, and wo ask holder* to write us early. Potatoes are in good demand and the supply of fresh. Lines is now falling off rapidly. Bulk lines of honey are wanted. Molasses is now available.
There is good enquiry tor choice caubflwoers which are in short supply, and satisfactory rates are ruling. Choice savoy cabbage is meeting better siJc at advancer rates. Ironbark pannikins aad marrows are scarce, and oonsibnnients arriving meet keen competition. Lettuce is rating at high rate* Swedes are selling slowly, and parents are dull of sale. Choice table carrots and whito turnips meet fair demand. Celery meets excellent sale. Spring onions and leeks are selling freely. A good demand continues for ehoico cooking tind dessert apples, and we could handle larger consignments. Choice lines of dessert pears are eagerly bought up at high rates.
