Captain 11. S. Smart, oi the Indian Army, was removed from service recently because he had not joined the regiment on the expiration ol his leave in December. It since has been ascertained that Smart strongly desired to join tho forces in Trance and came to England and enlisted as a private under the name ol Hardy in the \\ est Surrey. He was killed at T'estu bert in May last, where he displayed such gallantry that he would have beeu granted the Distinguished Service Medal had ho survived.
The King has approved of the cancellation of the removal order.
