i , « LEVIN DEFEATS SHANNON. t On Saturday afternoon Levin-Wan-derers' Club hitched its team to its chariot and prepared to drive over the usual Saturday obstruction on its journey to the cup. The obstruction on Saturday was the Shannon team and both met on the Levin park domain. Levin moved off steadily, likewise their opponents, and some good last open play resulted; a marked improvement oil the match played on the domain the previous Safurday. The game moved up and down tfie field neither side appearing to hold much advantage over the other. Levin got the ball smartly and by fine passing sent the ball right out of N. Winiata who scored. L. McDonald secured the goal. Levin was asserting its superiority, and Shannon's efforts to chock the wheels resulted in getting their fingers jammed, from'which' predicament several free kicks released theni. Nothing daunted they fought on aiid carrying the game into Levin half. Moymhan from a mark secured a goal, making their score six. The game became harder and moved up and down the line, the heavy going telling on both teams. Much talk and appeals to the referee took place about this period of the game; .some players apparentiy wishing the referee to win the game for them. Levin again torced .Shannon back into one of their corners and a line-out resulted. Something went wrong here for Shannon seemed to lie seized with a fit ol absent-mindedness, and let L ..McDonald seize 'the ball and score an easy try. He added the twi extra points, and then the timekeeper closed down. The game ended Levin IG. Shannon G. Mr J. Smith wan referee. Weraroa forfeited to Otaki on Saturday. aud the latter are still leading for the cup by one point, with Levin second. The other teams are so lar otV that if they wish to see {Tie cup they will have to invest in a telescope. On Saturday next The Maori v. lakeha match will be played.
