[rER TRESS ASSOCIATION.] THE TAILORING TRADE. Gisborne This Day. Arbitration Court decided to make no award for the present for tailors in this district. Mr Justice Hosking stating that lie union would bo well advised to leave things alone till the country got over the stress of war must be felt, as people could exercise economy by purchasing factory suits, Evidence was given at Gisborne by the Master Tailors, and by Mr llobbs of Christcliurch, and Mr Nicolls Auckland that tailoring proper was dying, its place being Eaten by high grade factory work. It was the old story of the triumph of machinery over hand work. The system was developed considerably in America, where from 80 to 90 per cent were ready-made store clothes. Figures were quoted to show the diminishing value ol the trade and that a good many master tailors nad gone out of business. Mr Bullen, appearing for workers said that lie had not come prepared to fight for a Dominion award. The Court decided that it would be better to have the matter fought out in Christcliursli later on. SUPPOSED SUICIDE. Ashburton This Day. Margaret Georgina liow, a single woman, aged 20, was touiid with lier throat cut in a chaff'-house at her brother's farm at Barrhill, late yesterday afternoon. The circumstances point to suicide. Deceased had been suffering from nervous break down and was in charge of a nurse. tmt *nmttm——nan
