The Zeppelin Raid on London
On June oYd afternoon tin. , pie.bs -Bureau is,sued a, short ollicial account o\ Monday Jiight/s Zeppelin raid "in the Metroplitan area." Four incw wviv lost., and .several wore injured. No public building was injured, but a liU'iuber of private premises wore damaged. .'lhe fires caused by the projectiles discharged from the hostile aircraft were promptly dealt with. About W bombs, mostly of an incendiary nature were dropped. Kor obvious reasons the eoniuiunif|iic does not .specify the districts allccled. but il is stated that the bombs wen , chopped in various localities not far distant from each other. Special constables' wore called out. and the police -'ere able' to keep tho .situation throughly well in hand. The German ofiieial account of the raid describes it a.s a reprisal for the recent air attack on the "open town" of Ludwigsliafcn (where the poison gasevs are inaile). and slab's that bombs ■"'ere dropped on "the workshops and docks of London."- Antifiorm.au disturbances again recurred in L'-ndoii. feeling having been aroused by the-Zeppelin raid. '(Shops.in Shoreditch which were supposed to belong lo Germans -were attacked by an angry mob. Special constables wero again called out.
