John ol Jerusalem in England•The Editor oi lhe Chronicle. Sir, —it is now nearly six months since an appeal was made through your columns on be,halt of tho St. John Ambulance Association ior ciotiniig and comforts for the stc-K and wounded, and the response was so prompt and generous that our warehouse was immediately replenished with ail sorts of garments, household linen and comlorts. Since the autumn a vast new army has come into being in England, while other armies have converged from the Dominions ove l ' seas; our ileeU are lighting not only | ill the Northern Seas but in the Mediterranean as well; our troops ara waging war on Airicau and Asiatic sands as well as in the trenches of Trance and I'landers. Hie casualties aro very heavy and not only do our own sick and wounded need a practically unlimited supply ol everything tor their comfort, but ive should havo tailed in our traditions n we had not sent sonic succour to our Allies m I'raiice, Belgium and Eastern Europe. We arc thus faced with increasing demands while the supply upon which we have to depend shows a marked falling oil', .so that our shelves are emptying faster Miat we can keep them tilled. Our sick and 'wounded deserve all that we can give them ; n they have sacriliced health and limbs, sight and senses, let us at least see that they havo comfortable bedding in which to rest their suffering bodies, healing dressings with which to recover them ol their wounds, clean and cool clothing lor hospital ami convalescence and some of those obvious comforts, air cushions, invalid foods, tong chairs, toilet requisites, stationery, etc., w'tli which we hasten to the bedside.of the siek. These are the days in -which no one of us can ever give enough. All contributions will die thankfully received and acknowledged by the chairman, St. John Ambulance Warehouse. 56 St. John's Square, Oer ken well, E.C.—Yours kithfully, ARTHUR M. iBEfDiFOM).
