Councillor France, chairman of the Streets Committee, said that the trouble in thu latter street wat> that the drivers would not keep on the metal. One of the letters read by the Town Cleric at last night's meeting of the Levin Borough Council was one from Mr L. A. 'Barron, who asked to be csupplied with water from the Borough mains, but stated that he considered that any charge above £3 per annum would be too much. The letter caused some laughter, and it was resolved to inform' - - Mr Barron that water will be supplied to him on the terms ruling tor people outside the borough.

In referring to the- borough estimates for th» coming year the Mayor " taid they all would have liked to see the rate of ljd per £ in the capital value reduced this year., but they preferred to proceed on sale and sound lines, and therefore made no proposal to reduce it this year. Councillor Blenkhorn said that for 'the Council to reduce the rate the way must be. prepared by the preceding Council which often committed its successors t.o various works. Councillor France advocated a reduction in the watc i ate. Sortie time ago the Levin Dorougl Council offered three municipal sections to the Lands Department in exchange for the educational reserve adjoining the Levin public gardens, the idea being to extend the latter. The Lands Department refused the oiler on 1 the ground that the proposed exchange I was not an equitable one—the municipal sections not being oi suflicient ! Talue. It asked the Council to make another offer. At its meeting on Monday night the Council decided to take four of its sections and let the Lands ! Department take any three of the lour it wished in exchange for tho educational reserve.
