Argument was begun in the appeal cases Alex Penman v. Bennie, Inspector of 'Mines to-day. Appeals are against the convictions by the Magistrate of appellant, who is mine manager ior ijiie Taupiri Collieries Ltd., at .Ralph's mine, Huntly (1) for the failure to cause all parts of the mine to bo examined daily, and (2) failure to see that the working of the mine was carried out with all reasonable provision for the safety of the men employed, flic easo takes the form of a ire-hear-ing. Mr Salmond, Solicitor-General, and Mr Gillies ,is appearing for the inspector and Mr Skerret, K.C., and Mr ionks for the appellant.^
