A story about "a religious card player" i 6 going the rounds of our exchanges. This time he is a Belgian. He took ouit his pack of. cards during church service and spread them face upwards. Being • arrested for sacrilege, he explained that eadh card to him was a symbol. The ace reminded him of the Father, the deuce of the Father and Son, the trey of the Trinity. And so 011 until he came to t'ho knave, which reminded him of the Kaiser. The story fills half a column, and terminates with the Belgian's honorable acquittal.' Wo have read it with interest—for the Hl'th time, it was told in our boyhood about a. British soldier who fought against the Zulus* Later on a British- soldier in the Boer War wa,s the figure-head. A
(soldier in the United States Federal Army did it. And 110- doubt it was done in the Crusader's campaigns and a good deal earlier too. Still the tale is ben trovato.
