ELMJIUON RESULTS ANALYSE!). Tho returns presented to Parliament this year in connection with tho polling at the General Election of 1914 are of an exceptionally complete character. One paper shows (in addition to the number of votes recorded for each candidate, the numfier ol informal votes, the number of electors who did not vote, and the numfter of electors on the roll), tli'o percentage ol votes recorded lor the candidates elected, (a) to the total number ol electors on tho roll, and (b) to the total valid vote.s recorded, the population at the census of 1911 being also given in tho case of each electorate. The percentage of figures allow of some interesting facte being arrived at. On the weighted average for the 70 members return bor the Pakeha (as distinguished from tho Maori) constituencies, lion, members collectively cannot claim to "represent a majority of the electors of the Dominion, the average total vote secured by thorn working out at 46.50 per cent, of the number of electors on the roll. Only 19 out of the 76 members can claim to have been returned by a clear majority of the electors of the constituencies they represent. Of these, the Prime Minister comes in an easy first, the Franklin returns showing tliat 00.58 per cent.of the electors on the roll recorded their votes in Mr Massoy's favour, while lie secured 71.82 per cent, of the valid votes recorded, the actual number of votes polled LeTng 85.20 per cent, of the total. Tlie Leader of the Opposition received tfie Votes of 51.62 ;per cent, of the electors on the Awarua roll, 83.60 per cent, of the available votes being recorded. Sir Joseph Ward, however, Secured 62.17 per cent of the valid votes polled. In addition to Mr Massey, the members of"" the Reform Party whose candidature was endorsed by an absolute majority of tho electors on flie rolls of their respective constituencies are the Hon. W. iH. Hemes (Taurauga), Mr William Stewart (Bay ot Islands). Mr Gorden Coates (Raipara), Mr K F. Bollard (Raglan), Mr J. A. Young rtfaikato), Mr H. J. H. Okey (Taranakij, Mr C. W. Wilkinson (Egmont), and iMr 'D. H. Gufchrie (Oroua). The Wardite Liberals who secured a similar endorsement of their canditaturo are Messrs A. M. Myres (Auckland East).. Mr J. Vigor Brown (.Napier), Mr G. Witty (Reccartoii), Mr T. K Sidey (Diuiedin .South), and (as already, mentioned) Sir Joseph Ward (Awarua) The remaining member of the ninteen. Mr J. M'Combs, returned an a .Social Democrat, secured the support of 60.79 per cent, of the electors on tho Lyttelton roll.
