Horowhenua County Council.
Hie ordinary monthly meeting of th e Horowhcnua Couaty Council was held in the Council Chambers on Saturday. There were present : Councillor G. Watson (chairman), F. Retter, G. N. Stephen/son, G. A. Monk, S. A. Broadbelt and H. Freeman. Leave of abesence was granted to Councillor Kebbell, on account of important business in Wellington. Leave of absence was also granted to Councillor Venn who is indisposed. A letter from Mr W. H. Field, M.P . covering copies of the County Act Amendment 'Bill was received. Re the erosion of the Waikanae river bank, Councillor Monk said that he always was in favour of the formation of a river board. He objected to the council forming a river board as >t wiould only be able to control one side of the river, and be liable to actions by-the people on the other. He suggested that a conference !be held with the H.utfc County Council and form a river board. This council was not ;n position to .spend money to protect private ll||^rty. The left in the hands of Councillor -lufcnk. The question of effecting repairs at Paddoh'e folly was left in the hands of the councillors of the riding (Otaki) "and the engineer with power to deal with it. The engineer's report was adopted. Mr J. H. Cruickshanks waited on the Council in connection with the water race at Hautere. Though an oversight Councillor Watson's motion that the ■motion passed by the council some months ago refusing to pay further levies to the Wellington .Hospital Board, be rescinded, ■was not with at last meeting. Councillor Watson brought the motion up again but found that it had lapsed and that further notice was necessary.
