There -was a large gathering in the Methodist Church on Wednesday evening ior the double purpose of celebrating the anniversary ot the Sunday School and saying farewell to Mr and Mrs E. J. Judd and fheir family on their departure for Riversrlale. The Rev. Mr R-owe, who is in eliarge of the roxton-.Shannon circuit, presided and briefly stated the object of the meel ing. Mr Andrews, of Manakaw. sai i few words 011 behalf of the No-Licens League and referred to the good wor! done by Mr Judd in that cause. H wished Mr Judd and his family ever; happiness and success in their not home. The children sang several se lections very creditably under the di rection of Mr Tobeck. Mies Liuirvi; sang "Kyrie .Eleison," giving an ad mirable rendering of that time honour sacred piece. "Abide with Me,' was sung as a. part song by Mesdame; Carter, Judd, King, Messrs Tobeck and Hall, Mis Gibson presiding at tin organ. Mr Frank Judd then reat the Suliday School balance-sheet whicl showed that the receipts for the yoai were £71:3 7s. expenditure t') Os 2d leaving" a small debit balance. Mi ■Stiles, ol Foxton, the circuit steward, presented .Mr Judd with a weather glass, and Mrs AVhite presented Mr.Judd with a set of table cutlery. Master Quarrie handed a set of nail brushes to Master Frank Judd and Miss Myrtle Quarrie gave Mis« Judd an album 011 behalf of the Sunday iSchool. Mr J. W. Gibson made a humorous farewell speech, speaking very highly of Mr and Mrs Judd and their children. Mr and Mrs Judd thSnked their kind friends for their gifts and assured them they would always remember their Shannon Iriends for kindness. The chairman said that he would he glad if Mr Judd wiuld take up Sunday School work again at Manaia. Mr Andrew sang a patrioti® song "llie Empire is Calling" to the accompaniment of Miss Laurvig and was rewarded with applause. 'Jhe Rev. Mr R-owe presented the prizes to the Sunday scholars. He explained that the prizes were the gift of MY and Mrs Judd. A hearty vote o -was passed to all the performers. especially Mr Tobeck (the conductor), Mrs Gibson (the organist), and Mr and Mrs Judd for their gift of prizes.
