SEEDS REQUIRED TO SOW AN ACRE.

Uarley, 2J.to 2J bushels; beams, 2 to 2i bushels; buckwheat, or brank, U bushels; cabbage (drumhead), to transplant, 1 lb; canary, 3 pkgs; carrot in drills, Bto 12 lbs; clover, 14 to 17 lbs; furze or gorse, for feed, 20 to 24 ; bs; do. for single-line fencing, to sow one mile, 3 to 4 lbs; kohl rabi (turniprooted cabbage), to transplant, 1 lb; do., drilled, 4 lbs> linseed, for flax, 2i bushels; linseed, for seed, li bushels; lucerne, broadcast, 20 lbs; do., drilled, 15 lbs; mustard, white, 1 pkt; mangold wurtzel, 5 lbs; oats, 3 to 4 bushels; parsnip, 10 lbs; rape or cole, 1 pst; rye, 2* to 3 bushels; rye grass (if drilled, one-fourth less), 2 to 2i bushels; sainfoin, giant, 5 bushels; tares, winter; 2J bushels; do., spring, 2 to 2J bushels; trifoliumi incarnatum, 24 lbs; turnip, 2 to 3 lbs; turnip stubbln, 4 lbs; wheat, 21 to 2i bushels. LAYING DOWN A LAWN. WEen it is desired to form a la.vn, the ground should be trenched as directed for the vegetable garden any time during the autumn. If the plot can be prepared in March, a season n:ay be gained by sowing the grass seed during that mouth; the surface must bo thoroughly pulverised and trodden down firmly. The following is a good mixture, it procurable:— Creste'i Dog-tail, 21 Cβ; Festuca tenuifolia, 41bs; Festuca duruscula, 21bs; Lolium ' teimifolia perenno, 201bs; White clover ,21bs; Trifolium minor, j 81bs; Poa Nemoralis and Senipervireus < 41bs of each". This mixture will uffice for half an acre, and will form a very good lawn, and I? kept cut close answers most soils. Special mixtures for laying down lawns may also bo nad from any seedsman. Some of our native poas and oth'er grasses would answer admirably tor lawn purposes. If the ground is of a retentive nature, sowing the seeds should be deferred till August. Commence to cut as noon as the machine will act. Some irel'er the scythe for the first time of cutting. Roll previous to mowing; this will save the knives ot the mower.
