r lho ordinary meeting of the Levin .borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr Jj. R. Gardener), Councillors M. Fosella, J. Harvey, E. M. Merrick, T. G. Vincent, 8. Jones, A. Dempsey, and C. Blenkhorn. Leave of absence was granted to Councillor Robertson who was away from Levin. Further leave of absence was granted to Councillor France iwlio is not yet well enough to attend. ROAD OVERSEER'S REPORT. The road overseer, Mr I. Hook, submitted the following report Owing to the continuous rain of late, the roads

There has been a good ileal of patching done anil tho footpaths; drsseed with screenings. The kerbing and channelling along tho front of the saleyards lias been completed, the necessary culverts placed in position, and the footpaths graded except /where filling is required. Everything in connection with the waterworks ha.s been satisfactory with the exception" of fclie valve at the tunnel inlet, which has been blocked with silt, but it was discovered before t!ie tanks became quite empty. The tunnel intake and 'the tunnel itsell have 'been cleaned out. The report was adopted. GAS MANAGER'S REPORT.
Tlie following was the gas manager's (Mr A. Burrell) report for the month ending June 2GtliDuring the month matters in connection with the department continue to 'work smoothfully and well. We have added several new consumers to our list and also have installed six gas fires and two cookers, also several other heating appliances. The output of gas for tlie last month is a record for Levin, having reached the total of half a mil Hon feet. The output shows a decided increase as compared with June of 'last year, although our gas sold for power is considerably less. I have erected a new lamp a.fc the corner of Stanley-street and Bristolstreet, and the new lamp for the corner of Kawiu and Queenswooil road is to hand and will be working in a few days. The manufacturing department is 'n good order and giving satisfaction. The report was adopted.
