The Chronicle PUBLISHED DAILY. LEVIN. FRIDAY, JULY 2, 1915. WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD
This month there will be an election ot three members of Wellington Education Board, for a period of twelve months, and at the end of that period there will be another election—a general one—for wliich the whole of the board membership will be vacant. This step, has been necessitated iby tlie amending Act of last year. The Act makes provision for radical changes in the constitution of education 'board districts, in the direction 'recommended by the Education Commission appointed by the Mackenzie liovernment in ISJI2. Some of these are of a nature to commend themselves to the general observer, though the particular proposal to link Marborough with the Wellington Education District seems to many people ail objectionable one. A province sundered by the sea from the northern mainland scarcely can become homogeneous with these parts For the present, however, the Mana-watu-Hutt portion of the Wellington Education District has no concern with these proposals: it will elect its member on the old franchise and by the votes of the several school committees ■within- the old boundaries. The committees are fortunate in once more having the proffer of Mr John lvebliell's services. He is an educationist of long experience and sound judgment, and on his merits he should meet with an uncontested election.
