JThe attainment by Miss Jeesie MeK«gg (EManawatu's candidate) of fourth pfonce in the Queen Carnival "Queen" competition is the sulbject of general •congratfTulatTon in Horowhenua County. At 8 p.m. on Saturdaay night Miss McKegg's place amongst the fifteen candidates was sixth, but the arrival •of the Town Clerk of Levin (representing the Manawatu contributors) with ihds gatherings effected a decided 'change. He left Levin on Saturday afternoon with £520 in his possession. Ait Otoki he received the handeome contribution oF £755 from the Jooal committee and a .further £5 was gathered in at Paekakariki. All tlissa sums "were paid in at the Town Hall, Wellington, in one lot, and in consequence there were no ' 'disclosures" wTie'fl the "late cheque box" wa« ipened ai 9 p.m. In all a contribution 'of 'close upon £5000 was made by the M&nawatu district.
