A Block Vote
When a candidate in the recent j"Queensland elections arrived at a remote settlement to air his opinion (writes an AmstraEan exchange), he asked the landlord of a solitary "hotel where he could find a suitable- meoting place- "You don't want a hall," sqid the hotelkeeper. "I'm the representative of the electors in this here joint Scf out with yer views.'' The candidate mounted a barrel in the bar, a«3 for ten minutes addressed the landlord who, leaning over the counter, meanwhile preserved a stolid countenance. At the end of the address the hotelikeeper dhook the candidate by the hand and said, "We, the assembled elector of Gonligool. have passed in you a unanimous vote of confidence. . Now.-what'll yer 'ave ter drink?" When •the election results came to hand the candidate discovered that he had made a most excellent impression on the electors of Gooligool. He had not only •topped the poll in that subdivision, but ■he had secured all the votes. They numbered seven! '*
