LAYING DOWN A LAWN.
WlTon it is desired to form a la.vu, the ground should bu trenched as directed- for the- vegetable garden any timo during the autumn. If the plot can be prepared in, March, a season n:ay bo gained by sowing, the grass seed during that month; the surface must be thoroughly pulverised and trodden down firmly. The following is a good mixture, it procurable:— Orcsk"! Dog-tail, 21u"s; Fcstuca tenuifolia, 41bs; Festuea diiruscuUi, 21bs; Loliiim temiifolia perenne, 201bs; White clover ,21bs; Trifoliuni minor, 81bs; Poa Nemoralis and Semperviiens 41bs of* eacTi. This mixture will uflice for half an acre, and w-ill form a very good lawn, and iT kept cut close answers most soils. Special mixtures for laying down lawns may also bo nad from any tteedsinan. Some of our native poas and otlier grasses would answer admirably for lawn purposes. If the ground is of a retentive nataro, sowing the seeds should bo deferred till August. Commence to cut as soon as the machine will act. Some irefer the scythe for the first time of cutting. Roll previous to mowing; this will save the- knives ot the mower.
