- ■* vSTs. BOTHA'S ADVANCE. Among Gen. Botha's torce® is the Ist RHodesian Regiment, and a number of thai corps—a settler in the Chartered Company's territory— sends an interesting description of the opera/tions in the enemy's country. The letter is dated March 21. Swakopmund the men landed "at a decrepit old mole" without opposition. He goes on:
it was fortunate the officers in charge of operations had avoided the ambitious modern pier, which is equipped with up-to-date cranes and other appliances ior landing goods, and must have cost a Jiost of small fortunes. A mine had been attached (by the Germans, prior to their departure; which might have Iblcwvn the whole regiment to kingdom co. Other .mines had been most skillfully pdanted linliand—fortyseven ot them were afterwards discovered, and blown up by our people, andi one was actually responsible for the death oi two of the Imperial Light Horse, who were riding in from Walfisch Bay almost simultaneously with our s»a voyage.
