The Chronicle PUBLISHED DAILY. LEVIN. TUESDAY, JUNE 22. 1915. A SURPLUS OF WHEAT.
An interesting note on the world's wheat supply for 1915 is" printed (in the latest issue to readi The Chronicle office) ill the International Bureau of •Agricultural .Statistics. After giving tables descriptive of the yields in all the great wheat-producmg countries, the journal summarises the results as follows:—''Leaving out oi reckoning the average consumption of the last five years and taking the reduced tig-liJ-cs we find for the current year a consumption of 907,350,000 quintals, against an available production oi 1,003,770.000 quintals. There should therefore bo a margin of about 86 million quintals, excluding stocks carried over from th,j past year, either to meet the combined consumption needs iu the countries considered or to make good deficits in production. This excess will have to meet the needs of the countries which, no 1 ; being wheat producers and therefore not considered in the preceding table, have a large import of wheat and flour, like a great number of tropical countries and colonies." ' For information of our a-eaders we mention that throe quintals of 'wheat are a shade over one bushel English measure. With a .prospect of only twelve million Bushels ot wheat for the whole outside world there seems to be surety of high prices for some years to come
