As a further means of raising money for the patriotic fund the Shanno 1 committee organised a football maioh wßicli came off on the recreation frouid on Wednesday afternoon. The mat on was Town v. Countrty, Mr Noble captaining the Townics and JVlr Wati.n the "Cockies." A good game resulted in a draw, each side scoring three points. Mr Foster acted as referee The members of Ven Bede's congregation may be reminded of the intercession service on Wednesday evenings which the vicar conducts tor the benefit ol the soldiers who are fighting in ■our defence. On Tuesday afternoon Miss Stace gave a concert at the public school in aid of the patriotic funds. The total proceeds amounted to £3 2s. Trooper Hinckson, of the Expeditionary Force is at present on a visit to Shannon. Mrs Pickett gave an evening parry on Tuesday which was largely attend ed and should be the means of adding something more to the fund ' the sick and wounded soldiers. On Wednesday evening Mrs Tilling gave an evening at home tor the sa*»iv object. There was again a large gat.h ering of Shannon folk. T:ho time passes! pleasantly with progressive euchre and various other games. There was aIS'V a mock auction which provoked mucn merriment and extracted a good many coins from the pockets of the guests. Altogether a very enjoyable evening was spent. In the Gillandia Ha.ll on Tuesday evening another gathering was held u connection with the Patriotic Fund. The entertainment was organised b Mrs Gibson and Mrs Carter. Mrs and Miss Laurvig and was very successfu 1 Cards, bagatelle and otlier games wer > \ndulged in. Our candidate for tlio "throne"—Miss MoKegg, of Levingraced the hall with her presence and there was a fairly numerous attendance. On Thursday evening Mrs Wickliflo gavo an evening party in aid of the Patriotic Fund. There was a large number of guests present, and a very pleasant time was passed by all present
