Horowhenua County Council

Tho ordinary meeting of the Horowhenua County Council is being held to-day in tho Council Chambers (Councillor G. Watson (chairman) presiding. Tho following correspondence has been received and is being dealt with:— An application for permission to erect a wire fence (seven wires) on the edge of the formation of the road on that portion from'the corner of Buckley road to the corner where Thomas Wells has widened tho road, a distance of" seven chains, was received from M*r C. B. Robinson, of Shannon. Mr T. M. .Toll, of Weraroa, asked for an increase of pay for horso work owing to the increased cost of horse-feed. The County Engineer asked the Council to provide him with a light motor car. Owing to the rapid increase of work he had to keep three horses, and the expense of this, at the present price of horse-feed, was too • great. He was now working 70 hours a week and considered lie deserved more than a labourer's wage. If he had a car he could do the work in less time. If the council provided him with a light car and raised his salary by £25 per annum he would maintain it himself.
