The Levin Hookey Olirb will hold a meeting in the Levin Hotel tHs evening at half-past seven o'clock.
There wa« a good demand for fait stock at the Levin saleyards yesterday, and high prices wero realised. Strong buyers from AVellington were present. ¥a.t wethers brought m> to 28s, and fat bullocks to £15.
At his farm at Ohati ,Mr J . draw has installed a modern milking plant within tho last tow weeks. The machinos are tfliose made by <the Gano Company, and the whole outfit is provided .with all the latest improvemente. The floor of the shed is concreted throughout, and a (high pressure water supply gives efficient means for keeping the 'whole plaoe thoroughly clean. Some distance from the milking ehed a cooling room with milk coolers has been built. To tihis room the milk flows straight from the releaser and is cooled immediately. The Taieri Advocate has now ceased publication. On account ot tihe war, advertising patronage hae been withdrawn to such an extent that the present proprietors find' it impossible to carry on. The Ohau concert at the King's Theatre on Tuesday next is to ibe followed by a dance for which a separate ibaJl hae been engaged. The good old country idea of finishing up with a dance has this disadvantage, that usually the hall has to be cleared of eeate and swopt when the concert is over. The audience lwt.s to stand outside while this is done and in addition to the fact that half or three-quasiers of. an houir is lu-asted. the hall is full of dust from the suet-ping for «n hour afterwards. On Tuesday, however, the dancers will simply have to walk to the Town Hall, where everything will 'be ready to begin dancing right away. •RefreeOunente ■will bo provided by a commit/teo of Ohviu ladies. The iinutsic will Ibe supplied Iby Miss Pink, of Levin (who' has generously offered her services for all the Queen Carnival funotions) and a number of otlher ladies and gentlemen. .For those who attend tilie. concert admission to the dance will ibe Is. They will get a ticket wheu leaving tho King's Theatre. Those who do not attend the concert will have to pay Is 6d. It is estimated that £20 at the outside will cover cost of the dress to he worn by tho Manawatu candidate for Quejen of the Oannival at tho celebration in Wellington. This sum will be obtained at a local ceremony to foe held in Levin after the main event (at Wellington) lias been celebrated. 'Already several "queens" have signified their willingness to take part in the Levin celebration, which will ibe carried out on almost the same lines as the Wellington event. A eection of land has been presented by the Hon. C. H. Mills, M.L.C., (on ibehalf of the Raumati Estate, Paraparaumu) for tlhe fbenefit of the Manawatu Queen Carnival. The eeoti»ii will be disposed of by (ballot, for which tiokets may ibe bought ajs 2e each. The main work of disposing ot the tickets is being undertaken iby Mr VJ. Howell, of Paraparaumu. Books of tickets wilt be available in Levin to-day.
