A motion to bo moved at the next meeting of the Napier Borough Council is "That in future 110 Uernuui, AusUian or Turk, whether naturalised or not, be employed by the .Napier City Council." 'J he mover and seconder and any supporter of such a motion a<s this should be remembered for his valour if not for his" good judgment. In elfect, the judgment of such a vot-er amounts to the direct and inevadablo asseition that all naturalised ex-aliens Kiiould be forced to return to their countries of birth, where they would be required to take up arms and fight against the British nation and her allies. Napier Borough Council is not alone in possessing such unbalanced: put-riots as the mover 01 the motion we refer to, but .as this motion is the latest one it is fair enough to make its mover the recipient of the truth as it seems .to us. A naturalised alien is entitled to the protection and care of the British flag and polity as long as lie remains a true subject of his '-adopted country. Perfervid irotliy demagogues, per contra, should he given a hint that they retard—not assist—the progress of the British nation towards success in war and the achievement of ultimate peace when they behave as their Napier exemplars are doing today.
