A private cable message was received to-day stating that lan Campbell, a lieutenant in the Cameron Highlanders, was killed in action on May 9th. Lieut. Campbell's father was Mr P. Campbell, late of Christchurch, and rus mother is a daughter of the late Hon. W. Robinson, and sister of Lady Campbell, of Cheviot, and Lady Bell, of Wellington. CONGRATULATIONS- FROM H.M.S. NEW ZSALAND. The officers on H.M.S. New Zealand have not forgotten Sir r. Bell. Ho was in charge of their tour round New Zealand and they have sent him hearty congratulations on tho honor conferred on him. GOOD RECRUITING DISTRICT'. Palmerston North, This Day. To date, the recruiting in the Wellington military district, is 2000 above requirements. ALLEGED THEFT OF WHEAT. Mart»n, This Day. At the Police Court this morning, Thomas D. Halvey was committed for trial for the alleged theft of ten bags of wheat, valued at £12, from Batty's larm. Bail was allowed in £50. THE HOSPITAL SHIP. The Rangitikei Advocate's Hospital Fund reached £1015 to-day. The list is closed now.
