The management -committee of the General Federation of Trades Unions has issued a manifesto, hinting at the possibility of a gigantic industrial dispute in Lancashire, and in which it states that some of the manfacturers are feeling the pressure of artificially inflated coal prices, and ire talking of shutting down the factories throughout Lancashire. Tho work people are demanding bonuses to meet tho increased cost o'f living. The manifesto regrets the Government failure to deal effectively with food and coal, and the war profits, but urges the men to avoid industrial disputes.

EXPLOSION ON A STEAMER

An explosion occurred on the Swedish steamer Lapland, 55 miles off Peterhead. and the iron ore was sent flying all over the ship. She began to sink and the crew took to the lioats and reached Peterhead. The captain believes that the vessel was struck by a torpedo.
