The Chronicle PUBLISHED DAILY. LEVIN. FRIDAY, JUNE 4. 1915. LEVIN MUNICIPAL HALL.

Once or twice there has boon a tendency amongst Levin citizens to consider seriously the proposal to elect r. municipal liall in the town. The matter was discussed informally by sjine of the citizens a while back, and in consequence thereof enquiries wore made as to money the necessary, patronage likely to be forthcoming to the hall, and prospects of raising the £5000 or £0000 that would be i-equired for the erection of a suitable hall of sufficient size for Levin's requirements. It -was in respect to money that the scheme was thought untimely by those 'who went into the matter. The rates of interest are high now. and though there is said to be considerable amount of Tiiney in the banks awaiting investment, it-is thought that this town has too many financial obligations already. This may be true in a degree, but the greater oart of the debt lias been incurred for revenue-producing plants such as those of thy gasworks and the high-pressure water supply. The Chronicle is of opinion that the hall is needed for this town and that the time to get the preliminary details investigated is now. If the borough council is not prepared to go on with the work this year it may be by next, and therefore there would be time saved if the necessary data were perfected forthwith? The halls available in Levin are not sufficient for its needs; they are too many in number, too small in accommodation, and lacking in conveniences. A municipal hall, well looked after and controlled by a business-like committee would pay its way. and ultimately become a public asset of great value.
