CORRESPONDENCE
LOur oorreepondents' opinions ate their own; the responsibility of editorial ones makes sufficient ballast for tlio editor's shoulders.l THE HALE-CROWN FUND. (To the Editor.) Sir,--In response to the appeal made by "New Zealander." in your issue of to-day, tor subscriptions towards a half crown fund, 1 have much pleasure in enclosing my cheque herewith, which will account for another 40 halfcrowns. I fully concur with the opinions expressed by your correspondent. I am afraid we are too much inclined to think and say what our neighbours should do, both in the way of enlisting and donating to the various patriotic funds instead of asking ourselves whether wo are doing our full duty to the State at this momentous time. Many will say that they cannot afford to.give, and doubtless this is quite true in very many cases, but, again,, many of us should'fool it a paramount duty to give t'o the Wounded Soldiers' Fund what we do not feel justified in spending on our added comforts or luxuries! T also think it is a good thing to have soino goal to strive for, and I sincerely hope that the response to "New Zealander's" suggestion -will ensure' the raising of the sum mentioned. Perhaps a ladies' canvassing committee could do -Hunch towards its and perhaps the- general committee of the 'Queen Carnival Fund will take the -matter up and appoint ladies to act on such a committee.—Yours, etc.. NORMAN KIRKCALDIE. :Lovin. June Ist, 1013.
