LEVIN-WANDERERS DEFEAT SHANNON.

On Saturday afternoon on the Levin park domain, in the presence of about two-score spectators the Lev in-Wan-derers met and defeated by six points to three the Shannon representatives. The south wind was keen to stand against, "and the gaine ; was slow to watch and there was little enthusiasm shown by anyone. In the' first half the south wind and the Shannon team woie allies, but they made no impression on the defence of the Wanderers in the few attacks made during the first half. On more than one occasion the Shannon team was hard pushed to defend its line, and a few free lucks gave welcome relief. Several times they reached the Wanderers''territory with a rush, but were speedily driven back again. . Shannon now -were playing better and carried the play into the "Wanderers' 25 and were awarded a Tree kick which proved resultless. A few minutes later they were given another chance and this time the succeeded in sending the bull over the bar. Play was tip and down for a few minutes and .then the .'Wanderers bore down on .the .Shannon jiine and the visitors had to force down .several times in quick succession. Strenuous play by.Shannon and an occasional free kick gave 'tlie.in respite for a while, but a few minutes before the close of the game the Wanderers scored a second try; but the shot at the goal failed again. The game ended—Wanuerers (j, Shannon 3. Mr J. Smith was referee. The Weraroa team journeyed to Otaki, and played the Otaki United Fkuh. The latter won by 13 to 6.
