At a meeting of the Hospital Board several members spoke in indignant tones regarding tlie treatment of a returned trooper, who, it was stated, came back from Egypt suffering from tuberculosis. At the dispensary it was discovered for the first time that he was simply in a state of collapse. One member said he was astonished to learn that the Defence authorities had not provided for the man, and also said that the local bodies must be held responsibel for the treatment of returned troops. The matter was an absolute disgrace, he said. The board decided to ask the Public Health Committee to investigate and take, action. MRE AT WAIPAWA. Waipawa, This Day. A disastrous fire occurred early this morning gutting the premises of Williams (jeweller), Viokers (tobacconist/), Bott (stationer), Moir (cycle agent), and Parkin (tailor), while considerable damage was done to Hoods (drapers) by water and smoke. The fire had a strong hold when discovered, threatening to sweep the main street, but the brigade put in splendid work an<T saved the street.
