The Mayor and Mrs (.■nixloner visited Waikanae, Tc Horo and Shannon yesterday, ami addressed meetings lield in those centres for furtherance of the Queen Carnival movement. To-mor-row night they will visit Ohan. and on Thursday night be at Otaki.
A concert and dance is to be held at iMnnakau on the 9th June, in aid of the fund which the Maoris of the county are raising a.s a special contribution to the War Fund of the British Empire. Maori soups. Maori dancee. and Maori musical instrument solos are to be the features of the programme, and it is anticipated that a memorable and record-making event will be the outcome of this special effort on the part of our native people. A sale of gifts by auction will be held during an interval in the proceedings. "Every little helps" provided that little is a drop of nazol." To-night (Tuesday) a meeting of Levin's general committee tor furtherance of the Queen Carnival movement will be held in Miss MeKegg's rooms. A full attendance is requested.
First aid to the injured is theJatest local movement in Levin. The ladies class was formed successfully last night and a men's class is to Ih> formed on Friday evening next at a meeting to be held in the Council Chambers.
On Saturday at the i'ost (>/liee corner. Oxford-street, a collection of vegetables, cases oi truit»s, eggs, dressed poultry, honey, infante' clothing, etc.. was sold by Mr w'. Simpson, auctioneer, on behalf of the Levin committee of the Wellington Carnival. The first article offered, an infants' coat, was solfl to Mr N. KirKcalclie For £5. Mr Kirkcnldio had it put up again, as did several others who purchased it, and when sold finally it must have realised nearly £j2. Nearly all the other articles sold at full market rates and despite the steady rain the sale was a very gooil one, and the result will be a good sunn for the Carniavl funds. Prior to the sale, the Mayor (Mr B. I?. " Gardener) addressed those pmsent, explained the object of the Carnival, and enlarged on the necessity of everyone doing sonietnintr to assist it. The Levin Brass Band was pr.esent and played several selections.
